The White Chalk of Days - Ukraine

Country Series - Ukrainian Authors – The White Chalk of Days

The White Chalk of Days, edited by Mark Andryczyk, brings together the work of 15 contemporary Ukrainian authors. Poetry. Fiction. Essays.

The Contemporary Ukrainian Literature Series was launched in 2008, by the Kennan Institute and the Harriman Institute’s Ukrainian Studies Program at Columbia University. The series showcases contemporary Ukrainian literature via events with Ukrainian writers. The works themselves must include a strong foundation of culture, history, art, and literature.

The Kennan Institute is part of the Wilson Center. “The Wilson Center, chartered by Congress in 1968 as the official memorial to President Woodrow Wilson, is the nation’s key non-partisan policy forum for tackling global issues through independent research and open dialogue to inform actionable ideas for the policy community.” 1 – Wilson Center

“The White Chalk of Days: The Contemporary Ukrainian Literature Series Anthology” is the result of the 10th year of the series. The work features the poetry, essays, and fiction of 15 Ukrainian writers.

I love the cover. A tree in silhouette. The poems are powerful, the stories are dark, and deep, full of longing and love that is built of life and loss.
