It's Pi Day!

3.14 is Pi Day

The numerical value of Pi starts with 3.14, Pi Day is today, March 14.

Calculating the circumference of a circle may not sound like a reader kind of thing. And yet, I am fascinated by it. But, I also play math games with numbers on license plates, in books, on TV, even on a digital clock. I think one thing I like about Pi is that I don’t see patterns. It is soothing to not find myself adding subtracting and multiplying to find a certain pattern.

What do reading and math have in common? Why would a word nerd like me also play math games?

Many of the process skills needed for mathematics are similar to reading skills and, when taught together, would reinforce each other. Examples of common skills are predicting, inferring, communicating, comparing and contrasting, and recognizing cause and effect relationships.” – IDRA
